Launched by the United Nations Environment Programme in 2017, the Clean Seas Campaign aims to engage
government, the general public, civil society and the private sector in the fight against marine litter by addressing
the root causes of the problem.
As part of the Clean Seas Campaign, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognizes that sport has an
unrivalled capacity to motivate and inspire large numbers of people. This is why the IOC believe that the Olympic
Movement has both a duty and an opportunity to contribute actively to global sustainability in line with our vision:
“Building a better world through sport”.
Therefore, working closely with the International Olympic Committee and with the commitment to reduce single
use plastic items, on Wednesday 15 December 2021, the Mauritius Olympic Committee has officially launched its
Eco-Friendly Bottles to distribute and encourage the sports community, athletes and the public to minimize the
use of plastic and raise awareness about the global issue of marine litter.
In this connection, the MOC has also provided a financial support to Reef Conservation Mauritius which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and the restoration of the costal and marine environment of
Mauritius while also promoting the sustainable use of biodiversity of our marine ecosystems.
