On Friday 26th November 2021, the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay arrived in Mauritius, reaching the 15th
destination out of the 72 Commonwealth nations and territories it will be visiting.
The Baton was officially welcomed by the Baton Manager Mr. Richard Papie from the Baton Manager of CGA Mozambique before spending 2 days touring the country.
During its time in Mauritius, the Queen’s Baton Relay and CGA Mauritius took part in numerous activities and
festivities, including a special visit to the State House, where the boxer that earned Mauritius its first Commonwealth
Gold, Mr. Richard Sunee had the honor of being the first Athlete Baton bearer in Mauritius.
CGA Mauritius also had the opportunity to discover the joy of clean transit with the 100% Electric Bus of RHT
Holdings which was used to travel for the Day 1 of the itinerary.
For the Day 2 of the Itinerary, the Queen’s Baton travelled to the Parliament House, the Aapravasi Ghat World
Heritage Site, the Mauritius Postal Museum and whereby also moving forward to the British Council in Rose- Hill, the
Rose – Hill Metro Station, travelling by the metro to the Quatre Bornes Metro Station to finally the MOC/CGA HQ.

The President of the Commonwealth Games Association Mauritius, Mr. Philippe Hao Thyn Voon Ha Shun stated “We
have relished in the opportunity to commemorate our community’s part in the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton
Relay. Everyone here has had a great time taking part in all the activities and supporting our local champions, as they
represent Mauritius as Batonbearers.”
