The Weightlifter Roilya Ranaivosoa and table tennis player Brian Chan Yook Fo have been given the roles of men’s and women’s team captains respectively for the Commonwealth Games, to be held from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England.
Ranaivosoa, Mauritius’ only medalist at the last 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia, expressed her pride at being named captain. Her message to the athletes is to remain united and to advocate team spirit to achieve the goals set.
“It is a great honor and pleasure. I will try to be up to it and motivate the Team Mauritius throughout the competition. A close-knit team, filled with harmony, is a positively strong team. If we are here, it is due to our efforts and sacrifices. Now, we will fight for the honor of the country. I would like to thank the Mauritius Olympic Committee and the Ministry for their unconditional support,” said weightlifter, who is currently preparing in Romania.
The table tennis champion of Mauritius is also honored by the trust placed in him. “This is the first time that I have been selected as captain for a major sporting event. I would be there with the team to encourage them to give their best in their competitions. I am engaged in my fourth Commonwealth Games, I hope to reach the quarter-finals,” explained Brian Chan Yook Fo.
