Dear Olympic Friends,
Celebrated every year on the 23rd of June, the Olympic Day was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris. The goal is to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.
This year, the International Olympic Committee has decided to place this day under the themes Move, Learn, Discover and Together for a Better World.
Inspired by the initiative of the IOC, the Mauritius Olympic Committee has decided to extend the celebrations of this day to an entire week. From June 18 to 23, we will therefore be celebrating World Olympic Week in Mauritius, with the aim of transmitting the Olympic values to the Mauritian population, promoting the regular practice of sport and physical exercise and inspiring the younger generation.
Solidarity, hope and optimism- This is what the power of sport is all about. This is why on this Olympic Week, let us stand together to celebrate this precious Olympic Spirit.
Happy Olympic Week to all of you.
